Use this blog to review and discuss Flash-based games (like the ones on addictinggames.com and in the PLAY area of MyHLife.) Say why you like or don't like something. What is it about a certain game that inspires you in relation to your own game ideas?
Students should all get Blogger accounts and actively participate in the Community Blog. Everyone should post one game review or reply to a post created by another student. If some student(s) really like doing blogging, they can become the 'official' class blogger(s) and make regular posts here.
INTRODUCTORY BLOG ASSIGNMENT
Here is a fun activity to get the blog discussion rolling.
Click Play on the video clip that follows, which features a video of Will Wright, the original game designer of The Sims, discussing what he's up to next in his new game design initiative, called Spore.
Please think about the following Reflection Questions as you watch!
- Who is the audience for this game?
- What is the role of TOOLS in this game, for the player?
- What are the different levels of creators and creativity occurring in this game?
- What is the PURPOSE of the game?
- How do the roles of game players compare with the role of the game designer?
- How do you think the game might have been designed? How do you think the tools might have been designed?
NEXT STEPS:
After you watch the clip, login to your MyHLife Blog and post a new entry, reflecting on the video. Use the Reflection Questions above as a guide.
