Topic Summary: The Design Plan is the blueprint for building your game. Planning is crucial to all great creative projects – from skyscrapers to movies to video games. Before anyone ever picks up a hammer, camera or computer mouse, they need a clear written plan explaining WHAT to make and HOW.

In this topic you will create a detailed Game Design Plan that includes:

  • A GAME PITCH that explains and ‘sells’ your game idea
  • A SCENE-BY-SCENE DESIGN PLAN that helps you work out the details of your game and create a list of all the assets (images, sounds and other game pieces) that you will need to make for it.

Understand and Assign TEAM ROLES

After you’ve created a Design Plan that lists WHAT you are building, the next step is to figure out WHO will create each part of the game.

  • Discuss what will each person will do on your team to help make the game.
  • Write down the team member names and roles on your Game Pitch.
  • Assign someone to make each part of the game included on the Design Plan.

Update the Wiki

  • Add a link to your Design Plan on your Projects page.

After you finish these assignments, continue to the Paper Prototyping topic.
