Topic Assignments

BEFORE the Presentation

Create a Game Demo page on the wiki.

Create a new wiki page that has the same name as your game. Add your Game Pitch and the .SWF and .FLA files for your game to the page, along witha link to a slideshow about your game (more on this below). You can "drive" from this page during your presentation.

Create a Presentation Slideshow in Powerpoint.

During your presentation you will use these slides to introduce your team, to present your game and to share some reflections about what you’ve learned and what you plan to do next.

Use your Game Pitch as a starting point and include the following important details in your slides:

  • Title Slide: Name of your game with a screenshot or image
  • Team Introduction: Who are the members of you team? (Name and roles)
  • Audience (Who are you designing your game for, and why?)
  • Game Play (What does the player see and do? What are the rules and how do you win? What is the goal of the game?)
  • Fun Factor (What makes your game fun for the player?)
  • Smart Factor (What does your game teach? What can someone learn by playing it?)
  • Style Factor (What kind of graphic/animation style will you use? What kind of sounds?)
  • Originality Factor (What makes your game special and unique? Why will it sell?)
  • Reflections: What you have accomplished so far? What your next steps? What was the hardest thing you learned in the process of making your game?

Practice Your Presentation

Everyone on the team should present part of the game. Decide in advance who will say what, then practice together. Go through the slides and the game while saying your presentation parts out loud. Do this a few times before the real presentation.

DURING the Presentation

  • Dress neatly and professionally.
  • Stand in front of your audience. No hiding behind team mates!
  • "Drive" your presentation from your Wiki page project page.
  • Think of your audience as "clients" who you want to "buy" your game idea.
  • Introduce yourself. Start by telling the audience your full name, and wiki screen name.
  • Speak slowly and clearly (We all talk faster than we realize when we're in front of a group.)
  • Relax and have fun. Your audience is rooting for you to do well.
  • Ask if anyone has questions (Wait until the whole presentation is complete.)
  • Thank your audience at the end of your presentation.
